EVENT PLANNING MONTH

May turned out to be an event planning month for AHCC. The Blue Book Construction Network and M&T Bank will be co-hosting events in June and September, respectively. The Blue Book’s virtual networking event is scheduled for June 22nd and M&T Bank will provide a 4 part series for contractors on “Constructing the Financials” to help build your business you deserve. For those that attend all the sessions, your name will be entered to win $1,000 from AHCC. M&T Bank will provide a meritorious completion certificate to all those who attend every session. We also learned that the Maryland Department of Transportation wishes to engage AHCC to teach two MBE certification sessions in Spanish. More details to follow soon.

2021 Child Tax Credit—Payments Start Next Month

You probably saw the news that the Child Tax Credit is increasing this year as a result of the American Rescue Plan. But with so much other information flooding your feed, you may have missed some of the details.

Here’s what you need to know about the 2021 Child Tax Credit straight from the IRS:

  • Eligible families will receive advance payments of the credit beginning in July 2021.
  • The credit is now fully refundable, which means that you’ll benefit from the credit even if you don’t have earned income or owe any income taxes.
  • The credit will include children who turn age 17 in 2021.
  • Families claiming the credit will receive up to $3,000 per qualifying child between 6 and 17. You will receive $3,600 per qualifying child under age 6.
  • The amounts will phase out for incomes over $150,000 for married taxpayers filing a joint return, $112,500 for heads of household, and $75,000 for all other filers.
  • The total of the advance payments will be up to 50% of the credit. You’ll receive the second half of the credit after you file your 2021 tax return.

If you’d rather receive your child tax credit money as one large payment, you can opt out of monthly payments on the IRS website beginning sometime before July 1.

Let’s Go to the Movies — AGAIN!

Up until last year, summertime meant the release of blockbuster hits that filled movie theaters and provided tired parents an air-conditioned respite for a least a couple of hours during hot, humid summer days.

Good news! This summer, theaters are open, and movies are back. We’ve rounded up a few family-friendly films to keep an eye out for:

  • Cruella: Out in theaters on May 28, Disney’s favorite villain, Cruella de Vil, has her own blockbuster movie that explains how she became the Dalmatian-napping icon. Check out the trailer. (A quick word of warning: This isn’t the happy-go-lucky Disney film you and your kids are used to. I’d recommend checking out the trailer before you head to theaters with preschoolers in tow.)
  • Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway: If you haven’t seen the first Peter Rabbit (2018), stop what you’re doing and watch it now. It’s adorable. Then, make plans to see the sequel out in theaters on June 18 (delayed from its original Easter 2021 release date). Check out the trailer.
  • Luca (streaming June 18 on Disney+): Pixar’s latest animated film stars Jacob Tremblay as a teenage sea monster who has grown tired of life under the sea. All he wants is to be where the people are. Check out the trailer.
  • Black Widow (July 9 release date): After being delayed three times and for 14 months due to the pandemic, Marvel fans will utter a cheer and concurrent sigh of relief that Scarlett Johansson’s debut as the Black Widow is finally in theaters (and on Disney+). Check out the trailer.
  • Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 16 release date): Yep. It’s just like it sounds—a remake of the 1996 animated/live-action favorite starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, the “Tune Squad,” and….Lebron James. Check out the trailer.
